Just a quick update to say that as I near the end of 60 days of the P90X exercise program, I can see some real improvements. One area of improvement is my stamina. This may not seem noteworthy to some, but I ran 3 miles yesterday. Off-road. Including uphill. No stopping.
This is a first for me and a huge motivation to complete this 1st round of P90X.
Until next time!

So, to follow up on my last post, here’s what’s going on. I am in the beginning stages of studying for my Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT) certification course.
It’s been a very long time since I studied any topic that doesn’t relate to Information Technology. I took Anatomy and Physiology and all the rest in college, but that was 30 years ago. Yikes!
Also, I strongly feel that if one is going to be a fitness trainer, one should be fit. So, in addition to the efforts that I have put forth in fighting my Type 2 Diabetes, I am now going a step further.
My son purchased the P90X at-home exercise system and I have been participating in it, with him, for the past 6 weeks. This is really intense and I have certainly had my moments of doubt. But I have made it halfway through and I now feel sure that, even at 51, I will be able to complete it.
More on this to come.
Until next time!

Well, its been a while since my last post. All I can say is that there has been a lot going on, and now it looks like there may be a break in the action.
I am in the beginning stages of pursuing the certification that I have wanted for a while. I won’t give any more away about it right now, but I should be at the point of sharing details in a week or so. I’ll just say that my Type II diabetes may be the best thing that ever happened to me…

For the past several weeks I have been looking for a good resource on retirement planning. I ran across someone that has written an eBook on how to invest your money, with a guaranteed income for life. I will be reviewing the eBook and I will pass it along, if it seems legit.
Until next time!

Linda and I went to an apparel and gifts market show in January, here in Atlanta. We were on the lookout, as always, for products that would be of interest to Baby Boomers. We hoped that we would come out of the show with at least one “keeper”. Boy were we double lucky!
1.) We found a great product.
2.) We found a product that diabetics, like me, have a great need for.
What we found was a super strong and durable foot massager. In just a few minutes a day you can stimulate the circulation in your calves, ankles and feet. Many diabetics are using this massager to combat diabetic neurpoathy in their lower extremities.
You can also get its companion product, a commercial grade body massager. Man, will you go to another place with this massager.
We are proud to now be distibutors for these massagers. They are made in the USA. You can get them in 110V(for the US) or 220V-240V(for Eurpoe and Africa).
We have decided to sell them on our site and we have also decided to give more than a 10% discount if you buy both massagers. We are also going to pay the shipping, for domestic orders. You can get them here: MASSAGERS.
I hope you will check them out. I sincerely believe that the foot massager can do much to fight circulation problems.
Until next time!

I came across the FREE software the other day. I needed OCR (Optical Character Reader) software for a project that I was working on.
This type of software will allow you to take a picture or image of a document, and with pretty decent accuracy, turn it into an editable document. It really depends on the quality of the image that you are working with. I have used it with scans of Word documents as well as .pdf files. You can get a FREE copy of the software at http://www.softi.co.uk/freeocr.htm.
Until next time!

Hello All,
Over the past several months, I have been trying to get approved for an independent term life insurance policy. I finally cleared what I believe to be the final hurdle yesterday. I had a 30 minute phone interview with a representative from the underwriter, and all seems to have gone well.
Being a Type 2 diabetic, this process has been rather comprehensive in its scope. There was great attention, on the part of the underwriter, to checkup history and lab results. I would suggest that if you too are a diabetic, you should keep very detailed records of your interactions with your care provider and be ready to enlist them for possible letter writing, on your behalf. While it is true that diabetes complicates the process of getting independent life insurance, it is not a deal breaker. But you do need to take your treatment regime seriously. And by the way, if you are not currently working with a care provider to manage your diabetes, you should!
There are many great reasons for doing your best to manage your diabetes, most of which directly affect your life span, but you more immediate reason is cost. It is amazing how much extra you will pay for life insurance coverage if you are not doing a good job of managing your diabetes. In my case, it will make a huge difference in my monthly cost.
I should be hearing back from my agent in the next day or so. If all goes well, I will pass along the name of the insurance underwriter in a future blog entry.
Be healthy!

Well that’s done. I got this blog area set up. I’ve never set up a blog before so please forgive any errors or missing functionality. I am going to be learning as I go. That is what all of this is about, really. There is a whole world of information out there, on a seemingly unending list of topics. What I am going to try to do, is narrow that focus to those things that affect those of us in the “Boomer” generation.
The rest of the website breaks that information down into categories, such as fitness, nutrition, skin care, lifestyle, etc. It will reflect the information that I have processed through first hand experience and research. This blog will wind up being a place to jot down my notes as I do the research.
I will also bring breaking items of interest to you, with the hope that you can make use of the latest information concerning the various aspects of being “middle-aged”.
